Earls Colne started their season in Division 1 of the Border League with an away trip to Tiptree Jobserve, both sides have made changes to their squads over the pre season and the game was played on a perfect surface.

Colne made the breakthrough when a handball in the box was given after the ball bobbled up onto the defender's arm. Steve Coote made no mistake from the spot.Tiptree equalised with a fine looping header at the far post by Czapala. 1-1 at the break and it was the hosts who took the lead when a far post cross from deep was headed back into the box and a spectacular overhead kick flew past keeper Felton. Colne kept their heads up and a shot by Theedom fell into the path of Will White, who smashed the ball past the keeper to level the scores.

The visitors started to turn the screw and when White flicked on a header, again Steve Hill finished well to take the lead. 5 minutes later Coote put a cross into the box, and Shane Exley was at the far post to finish neatly driving his shot past the keeper for the fourth. It was game over now but Felton still had to pull off a fine diving save late in the game. A good start for Colne.
