Match Report - Dedham Old Boys Reserves v Reserve Team

The Ressies travelled to Constable Country and returned empty handed, having left themselves with too much to do!
Straight from the first whistle, Dedham’s direct style of play troubled Colne. They were getting the ball up to their forwards as quickly as possible. And with the additional weapon of a long throw, the Colne defence were forced into some last ditch defending. Only occasionally able to get the ball up to their forwards. Dedham took the lead on the half hour; Burle misread the keeper’s long punt, leaving the home forward in the clear. He took the ball round Pudney and rolled it into the net. The next two goals had an element of fortune about them. Both came from “Delap” type long throws. Both times a Colne defender challenged the first ball, only for it to deflect off another defender into the path of a Dedham player, who fired home.
Half Time 3 - 0
Stern words were heard from the Management team, asking the players to be more committed and compete. They started the second half much brighter; Bonnett and Stalley were beginning to find more space in midfield. A through ball found Bugbee on the corner of the area and his low drilled shot was saved by the home keeper. Colne now held the upper hand. Adams and then Bright were introduced, and it wasn’t long before the latter slipped the ball thought for Bragg to run on to. The keeper came charging out, but Bragg, blocking his clearance, found himself in the clear and walked the ball into the goal. Five minutes later, Adams fired home from the edge of the box and it was game on. Colne were now pushing everyone forward in an attempt to salvage a point. This left gaps at the back, but the Dedham forwards found Pudney on top form, twice denying them with great saves. The final whistle was heard with Colne still searching an equaliser.
