Match Report - West Bergholt Reserves v Reserve Team

The Ressies made the short trip to West Bergholt and were looking to build on last week’s performance. Unfortunately, although at times playing some good football, gave a physical and experienced Bergholt outfit too much time and space.

The pitch was in fine condition and with the wet surface, the ball zipped about. Both teams passing the ball well. Colne were trying to get Bright on the ball as much as possible, Bergholt soon realised this and he became the subject of some very close attention. The home side had first half advantage of the slight slope and the wind was on their backs. It wasn’t long before they took the lead. Given too much time and space on the edge of the penalty area, the midfielder picked out the top left corner with a delicate chip. Minutes later they doubled their lead. Colne conceded a free kick on the edge of the box. This time the ball found it way perfectly into the top right corner. Bergholt’s defence was restricting Colne to long range efforts, and the home keeper handled these without trouble. The third came when a home forward shook off North’s close attention, and from his low cross the ball was tapped home. And a forth followed minutes later. This time a low cross from the by-line managed to squirm under Vince’s body at the near post and dribbled over the line.

Within the first 10 minutes of the restart, Bergholt had hit the crossbar from a corner and had two shots struck the upright. Then as the ball looped into the 6 yard box, the home forward seem to back into Vince, and as they tangled the ref blow the whistle. To the dismay of the visitors she pointed to the penalty spot. This was converted with Colne still remonstrating with the official. This sixth came from another spot kick. This time rightly awarded following Spillane rash challenge. Colne did manage a short spell of possession forcing several corners late on. From one, North’s goal bound header, struck an unaware defender on the back and Bergholt scrambled it clear.
